Ben and Rachel

Someone may have noticed it’s been a little while since the last post, so I figure I owe a few by now.  Hey, I’m busy, what can I say.  I am going to put up stuff randomly, so it will be like Memento.  But, with blogging.

So what better way to start than with Ben and Rachel’s wedding.  I had been looking forward to this wedding for a while as they are both good friends of my brother’s.  Here’s a few pics from the day.

Everybody likes an entourage.

0137.jpg

Rachel is pretty doggone easy to shoot.  The girl knows how to get her model on.

0221.jpg

Didn’t I tell ya?

0226.jpg

This little man was a stich.  Ben can tell he was being upstaged.

0354.jpg

Ben was able to get a sweet old MG for a getaway car.  While Rachel almost got an accidental peak before hand, this was her first glimpse.

0505.jpg

You’d get a little attitude as well if you had a car like this.

0597.jpg

Party time.  Sorry ladies, I know Ben’s dance moves are irrisitable, but he’s taken.

0871.jpg

This beautifully emotional moment is brought to you courtesy of Kelly, my second shooter for the day.  Skills.

0942.jpg

And, being the 4th of July, a fireworks shot is kind of needed.

1018.jpg

You two enjoy your lobsters this weekend.

Reach fer the sky…

I did some still photos for an indie film that a bunch of my good film-nerd friends were shooting.  It is going to be sweet.  I’ll give you some BTS (that’s  behind the scenes for you non-film folks) a little later with some more stories.  A good set always makes for good memories.  Here are some stills of the main actors to give you a quick taste.

Uh, and if you can’t tell, it’s a western.

rpp_8251.jpg

Ready for the close up

rpp_8274b.jpg

And a couple more, just cause.  And, since I’m a guy, I think guns are cool.

rpp_8344.jpg

rpp_8383.jpg

A little detail of the side of the cabin, with authentic wood smoke!

rpp_8514.jpg

What’s a western without a couple of horses?

rpp_9961.jpg

You can tell from the horse’s breath, it was COLD.  Yeah, more on that later.

Scott and Kristen

Yes, their engagement session is directly below their wedding on my blog, a testament to my negligent blogging.  A faux pas, perhaps.  Nevertheless, here is the wonderful and amazing wedding of Scott and Kristen.  And because it’s been a while, I’ll give you a few extras.  Ha, naw, I’m just using that as an excuse to put up more pictures that I think are cool.  I’ve got a load of ‘em…

Let’s start at the beginning.

rpp_4903.jpg

rpp_5076.jpg

The snow ain’t gonna shovel itself boys…

rpp_5149.jpg

The brave soul.

Ladies and gentlemen, the bride:

I love Kristen’s dress glowing up front.

rpp_6015.jpg

rpp_6554.jpg

Now this is what I call group formals.

rpp_6600.jpg

rpp_6832.jpg

When I told them I would make these outside shots quick due to the cold, blowing, snowy conditions, Kristen told me, “no, I’m fine; let’s go take pictures.”  Music to my ears.

rpp_6861.jpg

rpp_6918.jpg

rpp_7031.jpg

Jenn, from Modern Day Floral, works wonders.  Yes, those are feathers in that arrangement.

rpp_6671.jpg

More of her handiwork-

rpp_7087.jpg

I ALMOST had a second piece of this…

rpp_7161.jpg

rpp_7364.jpg

“Let’s hear it for the photographer!” they were all shouting.  OK, no, they really weren’t.

rpp_7800.jpg

And no wedding photo album is complete without a shot of… the photographer?  Yeah, hard for me to believe as well.  Me, surrounded by beautiful women.  Look outside, you might see pigs flying.

rpp_8073.jpg

The one complaint I had about the day  - it went by much too fast.  Scott, Kristen, thanks for being so much doggone fun and letting me be there for it.

Scott and Kristen Engagement

You may have noticed by now, I love couples that are fun and adventurous.  I don’t think I have kept that much of a secret.  When I get to shoot a couple that meets these strict requirements, I get pretty excited, dare I say giddy.  Enter Scott and Kristen.  These two were just so comfortable together, goofed around and did, well, whatever I asked.  “You wanna sneak into the trainyard?” says I.  “Sure,” they answer.  “Mind descending the frozen and treacherous staircase?”  “You bet.”  Risking life, limb and criminal charges, these two were a blast.  The wedding is but weeks away, so here’s a look at the fun I get to have soon.

These are the safest pictures they got to be in.

0010.jpg

0002.jpg

0003.jpg

Now on to the trains…

0004.jpg

I love graffiti

0005.jpg

0006.jpg

And the staircase of death

0007.jpg

Look at how edgy and moody it got once I climbed over the rail.

0008.jpg

No, I kid.  I did that after the fact.  But the true rocking of the camera came totally and completely from these two.  I just had to point and shoot.  They make it easy for me.  Make sure you stick around to see their wedding pics…

Last but not least…

Now on down to Chicago, where the Walima was to be held.  I left early enough to beat most of the bad weather, but boy, the snow definitely made an appearance.  But I’m getting ahead of my self.  First things first.

Welcome into the room

rpp_7713.jpg

rpp_7703.jpg

Getting ready for the entrance…

rpp_7786.jpg

This night was all about letting the bride and groom relax, talk with guests and have some fun.

rpp_7864.jpg

Kids are surprisingly good at having fun…

rpp_7852.jpg

rpp_7868.jpg

rpp_8036.jpg

I love catching family together having a good time.  Usually not too hard.

rpp_7996.jpg

rpp_8050.jpg

And, of course, who can forget the FOOD.  It is a good thing I had my camera in my hand (for the most part), otherwise I would have gorged myself this whole weekend.  The food was terrific.

rpp_8039.jpg

At the end of the night, we were able to quick get some fun shots of just Rabya and Nauman.

rpp_8201.jpg

rpp_8236.jpg

Remember I said the snow hit later on?  Well here you go, the proof.  And proof that these two are brave.  It had to be done.

rpp_8250.jpg

There you go.  The end of Nauman and Rabya’s wedding saga.  I hope you had at least a fraction of the fun looking at it as I had shooting it!

Nauman and Rabya - Part 2

Here we go, next installment…

The hair…  These mirrors made for a pseudo-funhouse shot.

Next, the make-up

rpp_5561.jpg

The detail of this sari is just fantastic -

Of course, everyone wants to help out

Awww.

This one was Rabya’s idea…

The grooms cake, made by none other than Barb at Sweet Cakes.

rpp_7239.jpg

As the end was approaching, Rabya’s sisters handcuffed her to a railing on the stage.  Let’s hope Nauman has deep pockets.

rpp_7564.jpg

I had another photographer join me part way through the day, Jen Kroll.  Maybe you know her?  It was a change of pace having HER shoot for ME.  Thanks Jen.

Let’s see if I can’t get Part 3 up before Christmas…

Nauman and Rabya - Part 1

I seriously don’t think I should say a single thing here.  The pictures just speak for themselves.  This wedding was seriously AMAZING.

The groom arrives -

And then the bride -

This is one way to end the night…

rpp_5325.jpg

I have the BEST job.

Stay tuned for more.  This party is far from over.

Brad and Lindsay

Well, it’s happened.  Brad and Lindsay are officially hitched.  I have known these two for years and they are some of the greatest people you could hope to meet.  So their wedding was definitely a cause for a celebration.  Wanna see the fun?  Yeah ya do.

Here is the beginning of the hair-do.  Of course, Dad felt like helping out.  He is a natural with hair.

rpp_2072.jpg

Curious George = cool.

rpp_2243.jpg

Gotta make sure it’s right, this is a one-time kinda thing.

rpp_2259.jpg

The all-important dress.

rpp_2343.jpg

And, of course, the bride’s best accessory:

rpp_2407.jpg

Here they are seeing each other for the first time and, at that precise moment, becoming the happiest people on the planet.

rpp_2582.jpg

The bride and groom with their team of loyal supporters.

rpp_2704.jpg

See, happiest people on the planet.

rpp_3324.jpg

Due to inclement weather, we did a few indoor portraits before heading off to the reception.  Does not Lindsay make a fabulous bride?  These shots from a girl that hates being in front of a camera.

rpp_3543.jpg

A relaxing and cozy fireside seat.

rpp_3608.jpg

A lil’ detail of the table and a shout out to table 20!  Woot woot.

rpp_3743.jpg

Brad looks thoroughly distressed about cutting into the cake.

rpp_3762.jpg

Mild mannered Lindsay pulled no punches and gave Brad an up close and personal introduction to the frosting.  Alas, her comeuppance was frosting down the front of her dress.  Yay for shout wipes.

rpp_3802.jpg

The cake was very tasty.  Believe me, I’ve tried a few.

rpp_3810.jpg

rpp_3969.jpg

There isn’t another place I would have wanted to be.  I am incredibly happy for you both.

Wovenhand

I was finally able to see one of my favorite musical artists, David Eugene Edwards, lead singer of Sixteen Horsepower (now defunct) and Wovenhand.  Their music has been labeled such things as Gothic country or apocalyptic southern rock.  Sound kinda dark?  Well, it is, but so are the blues.  And that’s what makes ‘em so darn great.  The show was at Calvin’s Ladies Literary Club, which is a great little venue.  Really good sound in there.  Here’s a few shots from the concert.

There was more sound coming out of these three guys than most other bands could dream of making.

rpp_8905a.jpg

rpp_8932.jpg

The brains behind the music -

rpp_8936.jpg

Apples: God’s favorite fruit

It’s true.  That’s why he made ‘em so tasty.  I do love them so.  I went out apple picking a few weeks back with my family and Mike.  We got out at the very last second.  There was little left on the trees, but we filled many bushels anyway.  Good thing, ’cause I seriously eat about 3 a day when I get my hands on fresh ones.  Yum.  And we were able to take advantage of the last of the really nice weather.

The prize…  oh lovely fruit of happiness.

rpp_8205.jpg

The Fujis were gone (which is alright, I’m a Golden Delicious man), but the sun on the sign was cool.

fuji.jpg

Looking down this lane in the orchard, all I could think was Huckleberry Finn.  In homage to him, I ate as many as I could while picking.

lane.jpg

The sun shining on a shed, doing funky flares with my lens.  Crazy.

shack.jpg

Another lane.  It seems to call out, “find out where I go.”  It makes me want to take a nice long hike.

rpp_8247.jpg

I don’t know why I took this picture, but I just like it.  I looked at the building and thought, “I should take that picture.”  So I did.  Maybe it’s the fun textures.  I don’t know, I just took it.  If you don’t like it, don’t blame me.  My fingers have a mind of their own.

rpp_8254.jpg

And of course, freshly made apple goodies.  This makes a trip to the orchard go from good to great.  This is just the epitome of fall.

rpp_8257.jpg

rpp_8260.jpg

If you’re going to see me soon and you want a good apple, let me know.  You won’t regret it.
